Helpful Tips for Foreigners Marrying Locals

Are you a Filipino or Filipina planning to marry a foreign national? Or are you a foreigner wanting to get married with a local here in the Philippines? The whole thing can be painfully difficult. But, fret not, here is a link from the Bohol.ph website that discusses about the whole process. Here is the link.

Tips on the issue are enumerated although the writer, Jeroen Hellingman, cautions that his article is not a legal advise, marriage counseling, a wedding planning guide nor is it a guide about marriage of both locals.

He talks about beating red tap and bureaucratic snags, basic requirements, the wedding, after the wedding and more importantly visa application for the local to go to the spouse's country.

It would also be interesting to go over the comment section and read problems and stories posted by guests. Hellingman also tries to answer some of the questions. Plus, more links to other resources may be found on the page also.

Bohol Churches: Saint Joseph Cathedral

Tagbilaran City, Bohol

Bohol is one of the first islands that were evangelized by the Spanish missionaries. Through polo y servicio or forced labor imposed by the friars, the people were able to build many churches around the province. These churches were, to date, preserved to its original structure and is known worldwide for its amazing architectural design. It also has the tendency of bringing the spectator to the olden times and sending them back to its history.

Weddings in any of the Bohol churches are unquestionably at the top of its league. Soon-to-be weds can expect the kind of ambiance that will make them feel the solemnity and elegance of their wedding. Weddings in these cultural heritage churches will surely not fall out of place.

The present cathedral of Tagbilaran City traces to a church built by Fr. Valero de San Pascual, OAR (1839-55), the bell tower to Fr. Jose Sanchez, OAR (1884-88). The church was improved by Fr. Escolastico Enciso from 1888-94. It replaced a smaller church built by the Jesuits which burnt on 23 December 1798. The convento was built by Fr. Lucas Corominas in 1872.

Both exterior and interior of the church have been greatly renovated, the façade has been given a Neoromanesque look, and the lateral walls have been opened to accommodate a growing population.

Heritage Features: Despite frequent renovations, some historic pieces still remain. Apparently, side altars from an older church were saved, because the two remaining in the church are in the 18th century Baroque style. The central altar, decorated with symbols from the Old Testament is in the 19th century Neoclassical style. The statue of San Jose, the patron of the church is apparently of 18th century vintage.

The cathedral is a perfect location for a wedding if you want it to be yet splendid and en grande. It is the capital's main parish and church. It has played venue to most Boholano scions' and leaders' weddings. The long aisle just makes the bridal walk more majestic.

One thing to note also is that this church is located just around the city and close to hotels and restaurants that you may choose to handle your wedding preparations and the reception after the ceremony.

And Putting It To Good Use

Garnering almost 40 MILLION hits on Youtube, the couple from this famous wedding entrance video put their fame to good use by accepting donations for domestic violence prevention.

We have been through a lot in life, but have come through each experience stronger and more in love with each other. Our experience since we posted the video has been incredible. We would never have expected this response to our wedding entrance in a million years.

Taking the Leap of Faith

The trailer looks fun. I hope the movie would live up to it. This movie premiers in Jan. 8 this year.

Amy Adams (also starred in "Enchanted") plays an uptight woman who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on leap day, Feb. 29, following an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on that day and the man has to say yes. When weather derails her trip, she enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper to make an unexpected cross-country trek to pull off the perfect proposal in time.

Marigold and Reg were discussing a few days ago about Thai "fire balloons" and how it would be really nice to launch a few during a wedding reception. Here are a couple videos that shows how it is made and another with some balloons launched into the sky.
